Today we are interviewing our 3rd place winner of the #bestffacontest @adriano_visualartist
1. Tell us more about yourself and the work you do?
Hi! Am Adriano, I was born in Naples 32 years ago... and now I live in the Center of Italy, in a small and bucolic country that called Poggiofiorito. I Am an Art Director and I work for an advertising agency (Jet's Group). I worked at the age of 15, and I eat photoshop from breakfast to dinner! And sometimes...during the night too.
2. How were you inspired to pursue this kind of career?
Since I was a child my favorite games have been pencils and sheets of paper, on which to write what was going on in my head, cartoon characters, pure fantasy characters, meaningless sketches ... Growing up, the tools have also changed, from the pencil to the computer, from the old Windows Paint to Photoshop.
I always had the idea that I would be an artist when I grew up, although it was not clear to me what type of art I wanted to do.
3. Can you tell us what style of art you do and how you developed your own style?
I am inspired by the great classics of Italian art, from Leonardo da Vinci (with the study of bodies and objects in general) to Caravaggio (use of lights and color). I honestly don't have a privileged style, my style is what I like. Realism, hyperrealism, fantasy, magic world and everything that allows fantasy to set us free.
4. Can you name an artist/s that you look up to? How have they influenced you?
Well in addition to the great Italian masters, today I am inspired by what I believe are real talents of the digital world: my absolute mentor is Max Asabin (@asabinart) (even if he doesn't know), with whom I find many similarities in the use of techniques and settings, he helped me a lot just looking at his artwork.
5. What is your typical daily routine like?
Oh well, my day starts with looking after 10 cats and a dog named Luna, I have a husband even if we are not officially married yet .. in the morning I prefer to take a nice walk in the countryside and breathe clean air, exercise and then dedicate myself to my profession as well as passion. I can say I'm lucky, because in my life I have always tried to bring my greatest passion (drawing in general) by turning it into a profession.
6. How do you go about creating a piece? Can you share with us your creative process?
Sure! it's really my job. the most important thing is to be inspired. If you have an initial idea or a model to follow, the final result will certainly have a completely different flavor. I start mainly with a concept / idea in my head, I take a sheet of paper and begin to sketch the composition in the maximum line, just to fix on paper what is already fixed in the head (it is a skill that is learned and developed with time). I believe that for the creative process it is fundamental to start from the base, from the basic design. after fixing the sketch, I go digital, open Photoshop and the world opens up! Search image of the subjects to be portrayed, without being too "precise", I will never find what I have in my head .. I just need a base ... we all know that with photoshop even the impossible becomes possible! And that's it!
7. Do you get creative blocks from time to time? How do you overcome it? What advice can you share to overcome it?
The creative block is part of the human being, we are not machines. creativity is a form of energy. one must know how to contain and exploit it. when some block happens, you have to stop, take your head off the computer and look for inspiration elsewhere. I always find it from the environment in which I am, the sun, the clouds, the sky and the sea .... the block is a kind of fear, but once you know the fear you also know the way to overcome it . You have to stop for a moment and breathe ... inhale and exhale ... inhale and let yourself inspire.
8. What are the things you do to get inspired? What are your typical movies, music,
activities, etc. ?
For me, all that is on this earth and not only is inspiration, from the kitten that runs around the house to the power of the stars of the universe. everything is inspiration, just look through different eyes.
I'm definitely very fond of the fantasy genre, I like the magical world and I like the idea of being able to make spells with Photoshop. Music? well certainly music that makes your heart beat, that makes you feel alive, feel and follow the groove! And if u can't stop.....start to dance!!! Only good vibes!
9. Which of your works is your favorite? Can you describe it to us and why it is special?
My favorite artwork is "The Phoenix" because it somehow represents all the difficulties I have encountered in life and which I have now overcome, from the loss of loved ones, to existential crises. I deeply believe in the power of the cosmos and the universe, we are all "divine" sparks in each of us there is a sun, a constellation, a whole galaxy. and like the Arab Phoenix the more I sink the more I rise! Guys, let your light come out! we are stars!
10. What is your fututure goals/plans?
This is a really good question. a question to which I found an answer in these difficult days, Covid-19 has put a strain on what is my existence, not so much from the point of view of health (thanking God I am fine and my whole family is safe ), but about my future in general: I would like to make my moods and visual poems known to the whole world. I want to change the world with the force of images. You can set an example with a gesture, with an opinion, I want to do it through colors and sensations! My future? Tear off a smile to those who need it. Exciting people with the succession of compositions and colors. Be inspirational for someone. I aspire to do this. I always want to be the best version of me. Always with a smile on my lips and the light of happiness in my eyes!
11. Do you have any favourite mantra that gives you any type of motivation or can give others inspiration?
I believe the most powerful mantra I can recommend is to have self-confidence! Always believe in yourself! Have the humility and awareness that you can always learn! there is no pupil or teacher, it is we who decide where to put ourselves. I always prefer to be a student! Learn from the little ones and observe the example of the older ones. Always believe in you! It is you who write the story of your life!
12. Where can people find your art or purchase any of your work if available? (social media links and store links)
Mainly here on Instagram (adriano_visualartist is my account).
I also have a profile on behance but that for lack of time I care little. https://www.behance.net/adrianopetitto
Surely instagram is what I follow the most. I prefer to do a few things and do well! :)
